I'm inviting a potential existential crisis that could unravel me like an old jumper. I've just installed Myst onto my PC, on purpose. What if I'm wrong about Myst? I can understand the nostalgia factor of wanting to play 'THE ORIGINAL MYST' but really you'll probably just cause yourself more frustration in both the acquiring and playing of the game.Ĭaution though, both realMyst and realMyst Masterpiece changes the game considerably from the original so those are not the versions you want for full nostalgia (still great adaptations though).Past Perfect is a retrospective column in which we look back into gaming history to see whether old favourites are still worth playing today. The Myst Masterpiece edition changes very little of the actual look and feel but helps bring the images and quicktime videos to a fuller resolution. It's like playing the game with the screen the size of your phone. The original Myst game is frustrating to play as they had to make the resolution a 640x480 to cram everything on 1 CD. (Although you may be able to set that back too, though I'm not certain) It should be noted that other then a couple little things you can disable (zip mode, hints, etc) the biggest difference is that the game is not limited to 256 color mode.
